Thank you for your interest in working at Camp Wakeshma! Since 1925, Camp Wakeshma has earned the deserved reputation for conducting a balanced program of recreation and learning experiences. We provide the perfect atmosphere for children to cultivate an appreciation for nature, develop skills, build friendships and create memories that will last a lifetime! The variety of camps offered provide excellent opportunities for boys and girls with specific or general interests.

Our qualified and dedicated staff is committed to making the experience at Camp Wakeshma a significant contribution to each child's personal growth. We are currently seeking individuals that believe in the possibilities and strengths of today's youth. To Apply for a Staff Position at Camp Wakeshma:

Review the available staff positions for our 2008 summer season (listed below) and determine which one (or two) would best suit you and what you are looking for in a summer job. Then carefully read the application instructions.

Application Instructions:

Below you will find two documents to download, print out, complete and return to the address provided. Please complete each document in black pen. On the application form, you are asked to complete a "Personal Profile" (question portion). Please type this portion of the application and send in along with the other documents. Be sure to provide four references in the "Reference" section. Do not use family members or current Camp Wakeshma staff members as your references. Please do not staple the documents together. Once your application and background check form have been received and reviewed by camp administrators, qualified applicants will be contacted.

Available Staff Positions at Camp Wakeshma for 2008:

All staff members are required to live on camp grounds during the sessions they are scheduled to work. Unit leaders, health officer, lifeguards and kitchen assistants are considered permanent staff members, meaning they are hired for the entire length of our summer season. Counselor, Jr. Counselor and Dishwashers are hired as part time (select sessions) or full time (entire summer season).


Camp Health Officer
Starting salary: $430 per week
Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director
Position Type: Permanent Staff
Responsible for the health and safety of all campers and staff. Current RN, LPN, Paramedic, EMT or Advanced First Aid/CPR required. Previous experience working with children in a health care setting preferred. Must be 21 years of age or older. Personal summer housing provided in a spacious staff cabin complete with living room, bedroom and full bathroom.

Camp Office Secretary
Starting salary: $225 per week
Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director
Position Type: Permanent Staff (option of living off camp grounds)
Responsible for maintaining a functional and well organized camp office. Individual must be friendly and dependable. Basic computer skills required. Summer housing provided in a staff cabin.


Camp Store Director

Starting salary: $225 per week
Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director
Position Type: Permanent Staff
Responsible for the run of the oh-so-popular Noggle Shop and Arts and Crafts room. Maintain a clean store and storage room, keep an updated Noggle Shop inventory of merchandise, balance camper store accounts and order Noggle Shop merchandise and camp crafts. Basic bookkeeping and excellent organizational skills are required. Summer housing provided in a staff cabin. Position includes one day off per week.


Unit Leaders

Starting salary: $225 per week
Immediate Supervisor: Program Director
Position Type: Permanent Staff
Responsible for leading counseling staff and campers in daily activities. Facilitate evening programs and other special activities. Assist and mentor counseling staff. Previous Camp Wakeshma staff experience is required. Applicants must be out-going and have exceptional leadership skills. Summer housing provided in a staff cabin. Position includes one day off per week.

Maintenance Assistant

Starting salary: $225 per week
Immediate Supervisor: Maintenance Director and Executive Director
Position Type: Permanent Staff (option of living off camp grounds)
Assist Maintenance Director in maintaining a safe and functional camp. Basic maintenance skills such as lawn care, painting, carpentry, mechanical and electrical are required. Summer housing provided in a staff cabin. Position includes one night off per week.

Lifeguard

Starting salary: $200 per week
Immediate Supervisor: Waterfront Director
Position Type: Permanent Staff
Monitors waterfront area during free time periods and during all other waterfront activity periods. Assists in daily program implementation and serves as all camp support. LGT, First Aid/CPR required. Waterfront experience and 16 years of age or older required. Lifeguard training is provided for those applicants without the required certifications. Summer housing provided in a staff cabin. Position includes one night off per week.

Counselor
Starting salary: $180 per week
Immediate Supervisor: Unit Leader
Position Type: Part-time or Full-time
Directly responsible for a cabin of up to 11 campers. Ensures implementation of camp goals and objectives through small and large group activities. Assists with all program areas. Must be at least 17 years of age. Camp Wakeshma experience preferred. Applicants are required to be energetic, friendly, responsible, creative and have a genuine interest in working with kids.

Jr. Counselor
Starting salary: "Counselor-in-training" position...volunteer status
Immediate Supervisor: Program Director
Position Type: Part-time
Must be at least 16 years of age. Preference given to applicants who have completed a Wakeshma Jr. Counselor Course. Please contact Director for application, detailed criteria and selection process.

Dishwasher
Starting salary: $120 per week
Immediate Supervisor: Kitchen Director
Position Type: Part-time
Responsible for kitchen assistance and clean up. Must be at least 16 years of age. Camp experience is preferred.
