A Note From The Director:

Dear Parents and Campers,

Entering our 83rd summer at Camp Wakeshma we are excited to provide all of our campers with an amazing environment for growth and learning. Nestled along the waters of Corey Lake, Camp Wakeshma traditions grow as deep as the roots of its trees. Throughout history, Camp Wakeshma has been a safe and enchanting summer home for many. This summer will be no different!

A celebration of new friends, campfires, sing alongs, and countless activities is what keeps campers coming back year after year. The rustic atmosphere is an inviting setting for kids of all ages to explore. Spend this summer making tie-dye shirts, cooling off in Corey Lake and relaxing in the Michigan sunshine!

Sincerely,
Abby Bennink
Executive Director

Camp Wakeshma Q's and A's

Question: How do I register my child to attend Camp Wakeshma?

Answer: It's easy! Go to our Enrollment page (link located on the left of the page) and carefully read through the information provided including the "To Register For Camp" and our "Cancellation/Refund Policy."  Download the Enrollment Form by clicking on the pink underlined link and print out. Please use one enrollment form per child. Complete the form by identifying which week(s) your child would like to attend and clearly print the information needed. Once you and your child have read over the form and provided both a "Parent Signature" and "Camper Signature" send in the form to our mailing address (provided above) with a minimum of a $100 deposit for each camper and each week they will be attending.

Question: Can I use a credit card to make a payment?

Answer: Camp Wakeshma only accepts cash or check for camp tuition payments.

Question: How will I know that my child has been successfully registered?

Answer: Once your enrollment form has been received and processed by camp administrators you will receive an "Enrollment Confirmation Packet" in the mail. Each child that you register will receive his or her own packet addressed to their parents/guardians. The packet will include very important documents that are essential for checking in your child to Camp Wakeshma. So be sure to keep the completed contents in a safe place until your child's week at camp comes! The packet will include...
    1. A Letter from the Director with information to review with your child.
    2. A Packing List for both your child and the parent/guardian that will
be accompanying the child at check-in.
    3. Health History Form
    4. Camper Confidential Form
    5. Camper Release Form
    6. Payment Invoice

Question: How do I check-in my child to his/her session of camp?

Answer: Check-in is from 2-4 pm on Sunday for each camping session (excluding USAG which begins at 12 pm). Please do not arrive before 2 pm on opening day as our gate will be locked until that time. Campers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. When the gate opens, you will drive up the scenic path to our parking lot where our staff will direct you to park your car and make your way down to the check-in stations. Be prepared to stand in line as there will be up to 132 campers checking in! Once you reach the check-in tables you will go through a series of stations where you will...Make final camp tuition payments, deposit money into your child's Camp Store account, hand in your child's Camper Confidential and Camper Release Forms and meet with our Camp Health Officer to go over your child's Health History Form and medication. After going through all the stations, your child will then receive his or her cabin assignment. Once your child is settled into their cabin, we ask that you do not linger so that our counselors can start establishing a comfortable camp relationship that will add to their amazing camp experience. Our gate will close again at 4 pm, so be sure to arrive at camp with plenty of time to explore the beautiful surroundings in which your child will call home for the next week! If for any reason your child will be late checking in, please contact us ahead of time to make arrangements. Also, be sure to plan your route to Camp Wakeshma ahead of time and check on its condition...we find that many families are late to check-in due to unexpected construction on the roads! If this issue does arrive on your way to camp, please contact us.

Question: When and how do I pick up my child at the end their session?

Answer: Check-out is from 8:30-10 am for Saturday ending sessions (Band/Guitar Camp, Co-Ed 1-4 and USAG Camp) and 1-3 pm for Friday ending sessions (Girls' Camp, Boys' Camp and Co-Ed 5). Please do not arrive at camp before your child's session check-out time as the gate will be closed. When the gate opens, you will enter camp, park your car and reunite with your camper by returning to the cabin in which they were assigned. If you arrive right away, please wait for your camper to receive his or her camp picture, class card (a fun keep-sake signed by the instructors of the activities your child took throughout their session) and the remaining camp store money from their personal account. After hugs and kisses, please sign out your child by showing the cabin counselor a valid ID (the individual checking out your child must be authorized on their Camper Release Form...regardless if the individual is the immediate parent or guardian, relative, family friend or sibling.). Note: a child will not be released to ANY individual that is not given authorization on the form or has a valid ID to prove their identity. Once you have signed your child out with their cabin counselor, please assist them in gathering their belongings from their bunk and cubby (assigned space for campers within the cabins). Be sure to have them check under their bunk, the numerous shelves within their cabin, the clothesline outside their cabin and the designated "Lost and Found" area (the ping-pong table near Cabin Z) for any forgotten or misplaced belongings. If your child came to camp with medication, be sure to pick it up from our Camp Health Officer at our medical building (The Med Shed). For sessions ending on Saturday, there will be a pancake and sausage breakfast being served in the dining lodge until 9:30 am for campers and the individuals checking them out. This is a great time to hear all about the fun your child had during their session and a wonderful opportunity to meet some Wakeshma staff members! The Camp Store will be open for clothing purchases during check-out (only cash and check accepted). There will be a designated area where donations for staff appreciation will be greatly accepted to reward our hard-working staff with an end of the summer party! Any left behind medications, belongings and remaining camp store money will NOT be returned. If this should happen, please make arrangements with the Camp Director to pick them up from camp before the end of our summer season (August 15, 2008). Our gate will close again at 10 am for Saturday ending sessions and 3 pm for Friday ending sessions.
